RIYADH — A veteran Indian expatriate in the Kingdom has urged Non-Resident Indians to make it their motto to serve humanity by looking after the welfare of the community.
Taher Hussain Ansari, Managing Editor of the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), offered this advice to NRIs in his keynote address while presiding at the Andhra Pradesh United Society (APUS) 10th anniversary function in Riyadh.
Ansari praised Indians for their contributions and hard work here that has earned them a good name. He applauded the services of www.yaind.com and journalist K.N. Wasif for continuously supporting the community and promoting their activities.
He congratulated APUS and its office bearers for completing a decade of noble services for the community. He applauded the diverse activities of APUS like blood donation camps, dental camps, and career guidance and educational programs.
Ansari, while congratulating outgoing Vice President of APUS Abdul Nayeem on his appointment as Vice Chairman, Greater Hyderabad Minority Department of the Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee, called on him to work for the welfare of minorities.
The guest of honor, architect Abdul Rahman Saleem, President, Hindustani Bazme Urdu, congratulated APUS on behalf of his association and said APUS has actively contributed to the welfare of the community in Riyadh in this decade.
Saleem praised APUS for appreciating and encouraging deserving individuals by honoring them. The functions also recognized the contributions and services of renowned literary figure Mir Ahmed Ali, Wasif and renowned social worker Latheef Thechy. Nayeem was honored for his dedicated services.
Dr. Mohammed Ashraf Ali, President of APUS, presented the 10-year progress report of the organization. The president, while thanking the community members for their support, said in the coming months APUS would organize many programs for the benefit of the community.
Nayeem thanked APUS for giving him the opportunity to serve the community and congratulated the organization on completion of 10 years. He also thanked Tanzeem hum Hindustani and www.yahind.com for their constant support and guidance. Newly appointed Vice President of APUS Mohammed Rafeeq said he hoped to serve the Indian community in Saudi Arabia on APUS platform. On this occasion the newly appointed Cultural Secretary of APUS Shakeel Ahmed was also introduced to the attendees.
Another new appointee, executive member Javed Ali conducted the proceedings. The program started with the recitation of verses from the Holy Qur'an by Master Badee Khan. Mir Mahmood Ali, General Secretary, proposed vote of thanks. A large number of Indians attended this function at Yamamah Restaurant on Friday.
