The young woman takes refuge at Al-Hafayer police station in Khamis Mushayt alleging physical abuse by her husband. — Okaz photo Yahya Al-Fifi Okaz/Saudi Gazette ABHA — A 20-year-old woman sought the help of Al-Hafayer police station in Khamis Mushayt to protect her from her husband who allegedly brutalized her. The victim has been married for six years and has a child. She claimed that her husband persisted in physically beating her and she finally had to go to the police for protection. Abdullah Aal Shathan, spokesman for Asir police, said the victim has been filing similar complaints for the past three years. She was referred to the hospital, under police protection, for medical examination. The hospital spokesman said her condition was stable. Dr. Hadi Al-Yami, supervisor of the National Society for Human Rights, Asir branch, said the society was notified of the case. Female social workers visited the hospital to follow up the case. A report of her situation will be submitted to the Ministry of Social Affairs. She will be provided medical care, protection and other assistance as required. The woman's father and husband were subpoenaed for investigation. The case will be referred to the concerned bodies for further action.
