DOHA – The first phase of electronic link between the customs departments of Qatar and Saudi Arabia has been launched at the third meeting of customs departments of two countries held here Tuesday, The Peninsula daily reported Wednesday, citing Qatar News Agency. The project aims to help Qatar and Saudi Arabia exchange electronic data for the movements of vehicles between Abu Samra customs in Qatar and Salwa customs in Saudi Arabia. “The remaining phases of the electronic link will be launched soon in a bid to exchange the information about all works and procedures for both sides of the customs,” said Director General of Qatar Customs Department, Ahmad bin Ali Al Muhannadi. “The customs directors of Abu Samra and Salwa will meet on monthly basis to discuss latest developments and try to solve customs-related problems quickly,” said Al Muhannadi. “The second phase of the project is pertaining to exchange details of goods and consignments and it is expected to launch within next two months,” said Saleh bin Mani Al Khaliwi, Director of Customs Department of Saudi Arabia. – Agencies
