SAKHIR, Bahrain — For the first time ever, the GCC will hold a regional drag racing championship which will debut on Jan. 11, 2013. This exciting development for regional motorsport was announced at a Press conference at Bahrain International Circuit (BIC) recently.
The team behind this initiative signed a five-year agreement for the same in the presence of: BIC Operations Director Fayez Ramzy Fayez, Dirab Motorsport Park CEO Sakher Bin Abdulla Al-Sudairy, Saudi Arabian Motor Federation General Secretary Anwar Hillmi, Yas Marina Circuit Director Saud Al-Khaydi, Peacock International Chairman and CEO Fawzi Soliman, and Peacock International Managing Partner Alain Rizk.
The venues in Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and the UAE, offer state-of-the-art drag racing facilities.
The full schedule will be announced in the coming weeks but the championship will start in Bahrain. There will be two rounds in the UAE and the final round will take place in Saudi Arabia. The championship is open to all GCC drivers with participation guaranteed from Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, the UAE, Qatar and Kuwait.
Run to the exacting standard associated with world-class motorsport, this inaugural championship will establish benchmarks for all future drag racing events in the region.
Each venue can accommodate thousands of spectators, and fans coming for the show will be able to see the highest standard of drag racing. In addition, the fans will get to enjoy the open paddock, see the drivers and cars at close quarters and enjoy the thrilling vending areas.
For those wishing to get closer to the action, there will be high speed passenger rides available too. For the younger fans there will be junior dragster action introduced later in the season.
Each event will be a celebration of speed and a fantastic occasion to meet motorsport fans from around the world as well as activities for all of the family.
“The opportunity to be a part of the inaugural GCC Drag Racing Championship is exciting and Peacock wanted to be part of it. We are a dynamic company that thrives on the slick activation of events for our sponsors, the public and the media and we want to show what could be done and how this could grow,” said Fawzi Soliman, Peacock International chairman.
“We are delighted to be part of the first-ever GCC Drag Racing Championship” said Mark Hughes, Operations Director for Yas Marina Circuit.
