Fatima Muhammad Saudi Gazette JEDDAH — The Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE) will organize a Saudi cultural day in Osaka, Japan, next month. A number of Saudi academics and Saudi scholarship students in Japan will take part in the event, which is scheduled for Oct. 14. Currently 462 Saudi students of both genders are studying in Japan under the King Abdullah scholarship program. Minister of Higher Education Khaled Al-Angari said the Saudi cultural day would highlight the strong relations between the two countries, especially in human resources development. "The event is a means to enhance communication channels and to introduce the Saudi culture and civilization to the Japanese community," he said. Salim Al-Malek, the general supervisor at the ministry, said that the event had been arranged with the Japanese authorities with the hope that the Kingdom could benefit from the country's experience in technological and scientific pursuits. "The Ministry of Higher Education opts to diversify its interaction with various cultures and gain broad experiences," he said. Esam Bokari from the Saudi Cultural Bureau in Japan said the event would enhance awareness on the Saudi culture and tradition as well as the Islamic faith in the Asian nation. A number of lectures and seminars will also be organized as part of the event. According to Bokari, there are moves to translate a number of books about Saudi Arabia into the Japanese language.
