Why do women treat each other harshly at work?
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 08 - 09 - 2012

Ibrahim Ali Naseeb
Al-Madinah newspaper
WHO is going to answer this question? A regular relationship between two women is supposed to be amicable and courteous. Unfortunately, most of the time professional relationships between women are complicated, especially in the education sector. The relationship between the female principal and her female subordinates is almost always troubled.
I recently discovered that a large number of female teachers are forced to stay inside their schools until they complete a certain number of hours while male teachers are allowed to leave even if they do not put in full eight hours.
When I asked why, the answer was that the female principal does not allow her employees to leave before 12 noon. I thought to myself maybe these female teachers are asked to stay until the afternoon because there is work they have to get done.
But I was wrong. I discovered that these teachers stay at school doing nothing except drinking tea and engaging in conversations.
Let me get back to my main question. Why do women manage other women differently from the way men manage other men? Frankly speaking, this is because women hate each other. If they were given the option, most female employees would choose to be working under a male manager than a female one.
I saw this fact manifesting itself in the stories I heard from my female relatives.
They said women treat other women harshly, cruelly and haughtily. They told me if someone had a doubt about this, he or she should conduct a survey on the issue and the bitter truth will reveal itself.
I would like every woman who holds a high managerial position to give me an answer for this cruelty. I would like to ask all women about the reasons they treat each other with cruelty when they should have supported and helped each other.
There are some women who are going through difficult times and suffer from cruel circumstances at home or with their families.
The last thing these women need is for another woman to exacerbate their sufferings and make their lives harder.
Such women want other women to listen to them, give them advice and, in general, make their lives easier.
As humans, we should treat problems logically and wisely. We should realize that we all go through difficult circumstances sometimes and these circumstances make us act impolitely without any intention. When we deal with such circumstances wisely, we will be able to pinpoint the problems and solve them. The last thing women need to do is be mean and cruel to other women.
Unfortunately, many women who hold leading positions in government organizations treat their female subordinates cruelly. I wish that this bitter realty changes to mutual love, respect and care.
