JEDDAH — The Ministry of Higher Education said in a statement Tuesday that it has finalized the transfer of the Science and Technology College students to King Abdulaziz University (KAU). The total applications that have been registered at the university's website has surpassed 700.
The ministry stated that it has contacted students through SMS and after the students fill the online registration form they can visit the university to finalize the remaining procedures of transfer.
The ministry said in its statement that it has prepared a program at KAU to ensure the names of the transfered students and check their university ID, and an advising committee has been formed to guide students on their academic studies.
The registrations will be done Wednesday and Thursday.
The students will then be able to obtain a university degree from KAU and their registration will be set according to the rules and criteria of other Saudi universities.
There are 1,154 students, girls and boys, at the college and only 35 percent of them are Saudis and the rest are non-Saudis.
In Ramadan, the ministry had closed down the college for not having a license to operate.
A large number of students objected to the ministry's decision of closing their college and transferring them to KAU.
Students on Monday were seen negotiating their cases with a representative from the ministry and one of the college owners at the entrance of the Science and Technology College in Al-Hamra district.
The students, especially those left with only one year to graduate, objected to being transferred to another institution and insisted on reopening their college.
According to some students, other colleges will not accept their grades and credits, which they said is not fair.
