NEW YORK — A doctor managed to save his pet tortoise by giving it the kiss of life after the animal appeared to be drowning in his own water bowl. Doctor Ben Waterfall spent six minutes trying to save the eight-year-old reptile, Atlas, after the animal appeared to be drowning in his own water bowl. The incident occurred when Ben, 34, went outside to his garden and he spotted the tortoise head-first in the water. He said: “I was quite emotional at the time. “I first started doing it and I had my mouth over his whole head, mouth, nose and nostrils. “Then I changed it to sort of breathing into his nostrils. “He was essentially dead. I saw his back feet sticking up out of the water. “I pulled him out but he was not breathing and was completely floppy.'' — Agencies
