Haas topples Tsonga to enter quarters

German veteran Tommy Haas beat top-seeded Jo-Wilfried Tsonga of France 6-1, 6-4 Wednesday to reach the quarterfinals of the BMW Open.
Third-seeded Marin Cilic of Croatia cruised past Germany's Matthias Bachinger 6-3, 6-2 to reach the last eight.
Milkhail Youzhny of Russia downed Santiago Giraldo of Colombia 6-7 (2), 6-4, 6-4. Marcos Baghdatis of Cyprus rallied to beat German qualifier Dustin Brown 1-6, 6-4, 6-1.
Wawrinka eases through
Swiss third seed Stanislas Wawrinka eased into the third round of the Estoril Open Wednesday recording a 7-6 (7-5), 6-1 win over Spaniard Ivan Navarro.
Frenchman Richard Gasquet enjoyed a troublefree encounter in what was his first clay court match of the campaign with a 6-1, 6-1 rout of Italy's Paolo Lorenzi.
In the women's tournament, top seed Roberta Vinci of Italy dispatched Portuguese hope Maria Joao Koehler 6-2, 6-0 but Italy's Karin Knapp upset second seed Maria Kirilenko 1-6, 6-1, 7-5.
Zheng Jie of China lost 6-4, 6-1 to Kazak Galina Voskoboeva.
Kaia Kanepi of Estonia put out the last American in the field by defeating Vania King 6-3, 6-4 while Russian Nadia Petrova reached the quarterfinals as Australian Jarmila Gajdosova retired hurt after losing the opening set 7-6 (7/2).
The same fate befell eighth seed Polona Hercog as the Slovenian had to quit trailing 6-4, 3-0, against Carla Suarez Navarro of Spain.
Errani in quarters
In Budapest, top-seeded Sara Errani of Italy reached the Budapest Grand Prix quarterfinals for a second straight year after overcoming Hungarian qualifier Melinda Czink 6-4, 1-6, 6-1 Wednesday.
Alberta Brianti defeated Lesia Tsurenko of the Ukraine 5-7, 7-5, 6-4 in a three-hour encounter.
Elena Vesnina of Russia ousted second-seeded Ksenia Pervak of Kazakhstan 6-2, 6-3.
Fourth-seeded Czech Klara Zakopalova also lost, 6-3, 6-3 to compatriot Barbora Zahlavova Strycova. Petra Martic of Croatia beat Su-Wei Hsieh of Taiwan 6-4, 6-1.
Seppi advances
Second-seeded Andreas Seppi of Italy and Joao Souza from Brazil advanced to the Serbia Open quarterfinals Wednesday.
Seppi defeated Ivan Dodig of Croatia 6-4, 6-4, while Souza won after Serbian wild card Dusan Lajovic retired because of an ankle injury. Benoit Paire of France beat the sixth-seeded Fognini 6-1, 6-4 and Joao Souza of Brazil defeated the seventh-seeded Harrison 6-3, 6-3.
