The Kingdom has denounced Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's visit to United Arab Emirate's Abu Musa Island. The condemnation came during the Cabinet meeting here Monday, presided over by King Abdullah, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques. Ahmadinejad's visit, the Cabinet said, is an infringement on the sovereignty of the UAE and undermines all efforts for a peaceful settlement of the issue through direct negotiations or by resorting to the International Court of Justice in The Hague. The Iranian president's visit to the island Wednesday provoked condemnation from the Gulf countries and foreign ministers of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) are meeting in Doha Tuesday to take stock of the situation. Dr. Jubara Bin Eid Al-Suraisiry, Minister of Transport and Acting Minister of Culture and Information, said the Cabinet condemned the terrorist explosion in Al-Akar village in Bahrain. The explosion injured seven security men while they were carrying out their national duty. The Kingdom emphasized its full support to the brothers in Bahrain. On the situation in Syria, the Cabinet welcomed the United Nations Security Council decision to send international observers to monitor the ceasefire in that country. The Cabinet stressed the importance of implementing the ceasefire in letter and spirit and ending the bloodshed. It is only then, the Cabinet noted, that the dispatch of medical and humanitarian assistance to the affected civilians can be ensured. Al-Suraisiry said the Monarch briefed the Cabinet on his talks with Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and highlighted the deep-rooted ties between the two countries. On domestic issues, the Cabinet expressed its appreciation for the recent forum on Family Cases in Shariah Courts organized by the Ministry of Justice which finds its roots in the King Abdullah Project for the Development of the Judiciary in the Kingdom. Additionally, the Cabinet approved the Arab Agreement on Combating Information Technology based on the Shoura Council's recommendation.
