During Land Day commemorations at the Palestinian Consulate in Riyadh Friday the Palestinian ambassador Jamal Al-Shobaki honored four members of the Saudi military who participated in the Palestinian war against Israel in 1976. The names of the military men honored were Major General Ibrahim Al-Malik, Major General Ahmed Mansour, Brigadier Modly Al-Wahbi and Brigadier General Abdullah Abdullah. The Palestinian Land Day came after Israel implemented the Law of Return and decided to confiscate the land of absent Palestinians who had fled or were expelled from the area accompanied by the declaration of a curfew to be imposed on the villages of Sakhnin, Arraba, Deir Hanna, Tur'an, Tamra, and Kabul, effective from 5 P.M. on March 29, 1976. Palestinian leaders from the Rakah party, such as Tawfiq Ziad, who also served as the mayor of Nazareth, responded by calling for a day of general strikes and protests against the confiscation of land to be held on March 30. The Palestinian ambassador, in honoring the four member of the Saudi military, said: “We have not forgotten how the Kingdom always stood and still stands by the Palestinians every day throughout our struggles.” Land Day is considered a national day in remembrance of the land the Palestinians have lost which provides a sense of unity for Palestinians everywhere, said Al-Shobaki. __
