The Saudi Telecom Co. (STC) Group is set to join the UN-sponsored Broadband Commission, said Dr. Saad Al-Qahtani, the company's Group CEO for Strategic Operations. Al-Qahtani the joint invitation from the Secretary General of the International Telecom Union (ITU) Hamdoun Toure and the co-president of the commission Irina Bokova, director general of UNESCO. The invitation came on conjunction with the STC's declaration about the number of its subscribers to the broadband services in the Middle East, underlining its pioneering role in providing modern technology. The broadband commission was established in 2010 by the UN to develop the infrastructure for broadband services all over the world and to increase its popularity. Charitable cause Separately, in line with STC orientation to direct technology towards serving charitable works, STC inaugurated number 5021 as a unified call line to donate to Quran memorization associations, the first initiative of its kind in this regard, during a ceremony launching the service through sending an empty SMS by Dr. Mohammed Al-Sumaih, the Supervisor of the Bureau of the Minister of Islamic Affairs, Endowments, Call and Guidance. Eng. Nawaf Al-Shalani, the General Manager of Corporate Communication at STC Group, expressed delight that the STC is the first to take the lead in this respect. He said the initiative is an extension of STC's long-standing commitment to support charitable associations as part of its corporate social responsibility. Donations of STC customers serve more than 70 charity association Kingdom-wise at present. Donations via Jawal has endorsed official channels to deliver them easily, smoothly and safely.
