lifters used for duplicating keys of rented cars. — OkazBy Mansour Al-Shihri Okaz/Saudi Gazette RIYADH – Police have claimed to bust a gang of car-lifters comprising four Arab national and a Saudi man who stole, dismantled and sold cars in three different cities of Riyadh. They have, according to the police, stolen 135 vehicles before finally being nabbed by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), Riyadh. Due to the increased car-lifting incidents, Riyadh Police assigned the task to a highly efficient security team from the Criminal Investigations Department. “The team took several measures and means to nab the alleged culprits and bring them to justice,” said a police spokesman. “We launched a surveillance operation that helped us in monitoring movements of the suspects that finally culminated in their arrest.” It was only then that police discovered the scale of their criminal enterprise. “They had a special workshop for dismantling vehicles and changing their features as well as for copying the keys of rented cars,” the spokesman said. “They changed the ownership of some vehicles through forgery and altered the chassis numbers.” Upon interrogation, the five car-lifters admitted to stealing, altering, dismantling and selling the cars. __
