A flurry of diplomatic activities
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 08 - 06 - 2017

Abu Dhabi/Doha -- Kuwait's Emir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah arrived in Qatar on Wednesday after finishing his UAE and Saudi Arabia visits.
The Kuwaiti Emir arrived and left Dubai the same day on Wednesday after meeting with the UAE leadership.
Comoros is now the 9th country to cut ties with Qatar after Saudi Arabia, UAE, Bahrain, Egypt, Yemen, Maldives, Mauritius and Mauritania.
Jordan on Tuesday also reduced its diplomatic status with Qatar.
These countries say Qatar is harboring terrorism.
On Wednesday, Vice President of the United Arab Emirates, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, held a meeting with Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, Emir of Kuwait.
US President Donald Trump spoke to Qatar's emir on Wednesday, and aides stressed the need to "working together to prevent the financing of terrorism."
Also "the President offered to help the parties resolve their differences, including through a meeting at the White House if necessary," the White House said.
Trump spoke to Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani as Qatar faces an economic and diplomatic blockade from Gulf states over its ties with Iran and terror groups.
The call comes a day after Trump spoke by phone with Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman.
Meanwhile, S&P cut its long-term rating of Qatar by one notch to AA- from AA and put the rating on CreditWatch with negative implications, meaning there was a significant chance of a further downgrade.
