Astros top Royals to keep on winning
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 07 - 06 - 2017

Mike Fiers remained unbeaten on the road, and the Houston Astros keep on winning, topping the Kansas City Royals 7-3 for their 11th consecutive victory. Houston's winning streak is the longest in the majors this year. Yuli Gurriel and Brian McCann homered for Houston.
Fiers (3-2) has not lost on the road since Aug. 20, 2016, a span of 10 away starts. He yielded two runs on seven hits and a walk while striking out four in five-plus innings. He won back-to-back starts for the first time this season.
Cubs 3, Marlins 1
Kris Bryant and Albert Almora Jr homered, and Eddie Butler allowed just one run in a 5 2/3 innings as Chicago beat Miami in the opener of a three-game series. The Cubs won their fourth straight while Miami saw a three-game winning streak snapped.
Bryant's homer gave Chicago a 2-0 lead two batters into the bottom of the first. Almora was 2-for-3 with a fourth-inning blast.
Giants 7, Brewers 2
Jeff Samardzija struck out 10, and Aaron Hill snapped a tie with a pinch-hit double in the eighth to lead San Francisco to a victory over Milwaukee. With the bases loaded, Hill dropped a 1-1 fastball from Rob Scahill into the left field corner, plating a pair.
Samardzija (2-7) had lost his last two decisions but held Milwaukee to one earned run on six hits and didn't walk a batter over 7 2/3 innings, his second-longest outing of the season.
Phillies 11, Braves 4
Odubel Herrera, emerging from a lengthy slump, had a home run and two doubles for the second straight game, and Tommy Joseph and Aaron Altherr also homered as Philadelphia defeated Atlanta.
The Phillies have scored 25 runs in a three-game winning streak that followed 25 losses in the previous 31 games. Joseph and Altherr joined Herrera with three hits, and both had three RBIs.
Reds 4, Cardinals 2
Eugenio Suarez and Scooter Gennett each hit a two-run double during a four-run seventh inning to help Cincinnati rally for a victory over St Louis in the opener of a four-game series. Cincinnati has won eight of the past 13 meetings and 11 of 19 against the Cardinals.
Zack Cozart bolstered his credentials for All-Star consideration, going 2-for-4 while reaching base for the 27th straight game, the longest streak by a Reds shortstop since Barry Larkin's 31-game run in 1991.
Nationals 4, Dodgers 2
Anthony Rendon homered and Washington earned a victory over Los Angeles. Matt Wieters had two RBIs for the Nationals, who improved to 6-1 on their current nine-game road swing.
Nationals left-hander Gio Gonzalez (5-1) allowed two runs on four hits with five strikeouts and two walks in six innings. Gonzalez, who threw 107 pitches, 63 strikes, is 4-1 in six career starts against the Dodgers.
Reliever Enny Romero fanned four in two scoreless innings. Matt Albers got the first two outs in the ninth before Oliver Perez retired Yasmani Grandal for his first save this season.
Athletics 5, Blue Jays 3
Ryon Healy hit two home runs and drove in a career-high five runs, Sean Manaea pitched six solid innings, and Oakland defeated Toronto in the opener of a three-game series.
The two-homer game was the second of Healy's career, and it came two days after Healy had his first in a 10-4 win against the Washington Nationals.
He went 4-for-4 that day with two blasts and two doubles, tying a franchise record for most extra-base hits in a game. On Monday, Healy finished 2-for-3. — Reuters
