JEDDAH — Manal Faisal Al Sharif has been appointed as the first Saudi female managing editor of the Arabic daily Albilad. It is one of the oldest newspapers in Saudi Arabia, having been established in April 1932. According to Albilad, Manal Al Sharif brings to the newspaper her unique journalistic abilities that have served here well in the nearly two decades in the industry. She has a bachelor's degree in Islamic studies from King Abdul Aziz University and a Diploma in Media and Journalism Management from Northwestern University in Chicago. She also received a diploma in investigative writing from the Nahar newspaper in Lebanon. Al-Sharif is the first Saudi female journalist to receive training in the United Nations program in 2001. Throughout her 20 years in journalism she worked in Eqtisadiah, Al-Watan, Madina and Okaz. Her last position in Okaz Organization was as head of specialized publications.
