Aden — More than 700 people have been killed by landmines planted by Houthi rebels and supporters of ousted president Ali Abdullah Saleh in Yemen. The Arab Federation for Human Rights has revealed in a recent report that the Houthis have planted more than half a million antipersonnel mines in different parts of Yemen. Engineers trained by the Arab Coalition have succeeded in dismantling 40,000 mines, the report said. Mostly women and children are the victims of the mines, it said. The report said that 924 people were wounded and 572 others were permanently disabled by the mines. Meanwhile, the King Salman Center for Humanitarian Aid and Relief is continuing its projects to assist the Yemeni people to get out of this crisis. It is supporting rehabilitation centers for the injured which also provides artificial limbs. Earlier this month, the Royal Saudi Navy vessels belonging to the Arab Coalition located a number of maritime mines planted off the Yemeni coast near the port of Midi. The Command said that the specialized teams examined these mines, and it was revealed in tests that Houthi militias manufactured these mines in a primitive way and planted deliberately along the Yemeni coast. It noted that these mines posed a grave threat to the safety of commercial ships, relief vessels and ships passing through the international waters.
