DAMMAM — The electronic payment equipment in various car parks will start accepting the new coins after two weeks, according to Mawaqif (parks) company. The new coins, representing the sixth issuance of the Saudi currency consisting of banknotes and metal coins, were launched about four months ago in December last year. The company announced that its electronic payment equipment would be completely ready to accept the new coins from all park users in the central areas and in the down town in various cities and towns in the Kingdom, a report in Al-Hayat Arabic daily said. Many park users complained that the equipment had refused to accept the new coins so they had to resort to other means of payment including mobile phones and the ATM cards. Abdul Rahman Jubran, regional director of Mawaqif company in the Eastern Province, said payment machines were being adjusted to accept the new coins. "The machines are now accepting the new banknotes as well as the old coins and the old banknotes," he said. The director said the company›s machines will accept the new currency with all its denominations including the riyal, the two riyals, the 50 and the 25 halala coins. "Customers do not need to use coins as a means of payment. They can also use paper currency, the electronic account which enables them to insert paper currency and the Mawqif application on the smart phones," he said.
