2012 Chevrolet Sonic makes a lasting first impression
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 15 - 02 - 2012

Everyone has dreamt about owning their first car and what the make and model should be. It is unlikely to be the most expensive, luxurious or the fastest car one will ever own, but chances are it's going to be the most memorable.
Choosing one's first car is never easy. Young owners place importance on a car's design, appearance, style, accessories and features.
Chevrolet has put a lot of time and resources to design and engineer a car to excite and inspire young drivers, while also taking into consideration parents' requirements for safety and value. One car that meets all these standards is the 2012 Chevrolet Sonic.
“The Sonic is the modern, sporty face of Chevrolet,” says Ahmed Soudodi, Chevrolet Marketing Manager at General Motors Middle East. “It represents and appeals to the younger generation's sense of style and enables them to express their individuality. It also comes with all the safety features, functionality and low cost of ownership that parents expect.”
The Sonic just might leave a lasting impression with its interiors; the inner environment is created around Chevrolet's signature dual-cockpit theme. It derives from the sportiness of the Corvette and has been outfitted with the latest technologies.
It offers space for four people to relax and stretch their legs. Extensive storage provides ample room for rucksacks and sports gear. The Sonic is also ideal for music lovers, integrated as it is with a USB outlet and Bluetooth to allow the driver to pair his mobile phone with the Sonic's infotainment system, giving him a hands-free option.
The exterior oozes class and distinction. Boys will love the clearly defined wheel arches, 15- and 16-inch tires that give the car an athletic feel.
The Sonic makes for a comfortable experience behind the wheel. Its chassis strikes a wonderful balance between a smooth ride and great handling.
Occupant rating was an overriding objective for the Sonic and this has been justified with a 5-star rating from Euro New car Assessment program (NCAP). An array of active and passive safety features, including ABS anti-lock brakes with Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD), driver and passenger airbag protection, including side airbags, foundation and safety cage supplement the basic integrity of the vehicle structure.
The Sonic is equipped with four-cylinder, 1.6L engine (115 hp), dual overhead camshaft (DOHC) petrol engine that offer a superb balance between performance and efficiency. Fuel consumption on a combined cycle is 6.6 liters/100km. It comes in a 5-speed manual and 6-speed automatic.
The success of a car is always measured by its sales. Since its launch last October, it has made a strong start and exceeded expectations. Experts predict a strong 2012 for the Sonic.
