Van Cleef & Arpels is revisiting its Frivole Collection
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 13 - 04 - 2017

AS spring approaches, Van Cleef & Arpels is revisiting its Frivole Collection, a luminous ode to nature. Nine original creations enhance the Maison's range in a bloom of graphic flowers, which seem to quiver beneath the wind's caress. Ranging from single flowers to shimmering bouquets, the different models light up the skin with their precious brilliance.
Spring's renaissance brings a new dynamic to Frivole's pure and luminous style. The creations – in which heart-shaped petals are arranged three-dimensionally around one or three diamonds –are characterized by their interplays of reflections and geometric lines. Available from March 20, 2017, nine new pieces showcase an original variation in gold, a new size and, for the first time, bracelet models of ethereal lightness.
Yellow gold paved with diamonds makes its appearance in the collection, with small model earrings, a large model pendant and a Between the Finger ring. Emblematic of the Maison, this dazzling piece depicts two asymmetric corollas, echoing one another on either side of an open band. The effect of brilliance is accentuated by the quality of the diamonds, selected by the Maison's experts in keeping with the highest standards: D, E or F for color and VVS for clarity.
Making their debut in the collection, earrings in yellow gold and diamonds or white gold and diamonds offer a "stud" format that completes the existing range. This new size extends to a pendant and a bracelet with chains, available in both colors of gold. For the first time in the collection, the bracelet is adorned with a single motif to embellish the wrist with grace and delicacy.
The quest for movement lies at the heart of Van Cleef & Arpels' creative process.
For the Frivole collection, architectural forms and the orientation of the petals have been worked with care to reproduce the random quality of nature. Mirror polishing – a technique in use at the Maison since the 1920s – provides a way of highlighting the glitter of gold and creating particularly intense reflections, suffusing each piece with unique vitality.
The search for brilliance can also be seen in the openwork: openings that the jeweler pierces in the gold structure to enable light to pass through the diamonds.
All these jewelry techniques combine with rigorous attention to detail, enhancing the Frivole creations.
From the diamond clips of the 1920s to contemporary jewelry pieces, floral motifs have always been at the heart of Van Cleef & Arpels' creativity. Enthralled by nature's constant metamorphoses, the Maison transposes the vitality of its movement and its myriad nuances and forms.
Christmas roses and Cosmos flowers, poppies and fuchsias, lily-of-the-valley and cherry blossom form a poetic garden, embellished by the craftsmen's savoir-faire. The Frivole collection thus rejoins a continuous creative tradition, perpetuated by Van Cleef & Arpels in homage to beauty.
With lightness of touch, the flowers unfurl their stylized petals in single corollas or bouquets. Yellow gold – evoking the style of the 1950s – sparkles with a sun-like glow, enhanced by the luminosity of a diamond heart.
The white gold and diamond creations illuminate the skin like so many freshly blossomed flowers. Mirror polishing accentuates the metal's sparkle and magnifies the brilliance of the petals.
The jewelry structure in white gold showcases an intricate paving of round diamonds in grain setting, of radiant brilliance. Stones and precious metal come together with sparkling intensity.
