Westbrook thunders to 40th triple-double of the season
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 04 - 04 - 2017

Oklahoma City Thunder guard Russell Westbrook recorded his 40th triple-double of the season, moving him within one of the single-season record, but Oklahoma City lost to the Charlotte Hornets 113-101 in the National Basketball Association (NBA) game on Sunday.
Westbrook had 40 points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists, leaving him one shy of the record set by Hall of Famer Oscar Robertson in 1961-62. Westbrook can tie the mark Tuesday at home against Milwaukee.
Kemba Walker scored 29 points and was 6-of-12 on three-point shots to lead the Hornets. Frank Kaminsky came off the bench to post 18 points. Victor Oladipo scored 19 points while Andre Roberson added 12. No other player scored in double figures as Oklahoma City dropped its second straight game.
Cavaliers 135, Pacers 130 (2 OT)
LeBron James scored 41 points to go with 16 rebounds and 11 assists for his 11th triple-double this season and 53rd of his career in Cleveland's win. Indiana's Paul George scored 43 points, including 19 in the two overtimes and 13 in the second overtime alone. The Pacers have lost four straight and six of their last seven.
The Cavs remain a half-game behind Boston for first place in the East. The Pacers are tied for eighth with Miami, a game behind the Bulls.
Celtics 110, Knicks 94
Boston hit the 50-win plateau for the first time in six seasons with a wire-to-wire win, enabling the Celtics to maintain their narrow first-place lead over the Cleveland Cavaliers. Isaiah Thomas led the Celtics with 19 points and six assists in just 23 minutes as the Boston starters were rested in the fourth quarter.
Spurs 109, Jazz 103
Kawhi Leonard scored 19 of his 25 points in the third quarter to lead San Antonio over Utah. Leonard hit all three of his three-point shots against Utah after missing 19-of-21 — including 17 straight — in the previous three games. Tony Parker scored 21 points for the Spurs.
Lakers 108, Grizzlies 103
D'Angelo Russell scored 28 points to help Los Angeles end a four-game skid. Mike Conley and Troy Daniels scored 20 points each for Memphis, which remained 1 1/2 games behind the Thunder for the sixth seed in the Western Conference.
Mavericks 109, Bucks 105
Harrison Barnes scored 13 straight points in the fourth quarter and finished with 31 as Dallas held on to snap a four-game losing streak. Barnes hit 9-of-13 shots, including three three-pointers, and was a perfect 10-of-10 from the free-throw line. Giannis Antetokounmpo led Milwaukee with 31 points, 15 rebounds and nine assists.
Nuggets 116, Heat 113
Danilo Gallinari scored 29 points to help Denver end a three-game losing streak and get to within two games of idle Portland for eighth place in the Western Conference. Jamal Murray's two free throws with 9.5 seconds left gave Denver its winning margin. Josh Richardson's potential game-tying three-point attempt at the buzzer failed to hit the rim.
Nikola Jokic finished with 19 points and 10 rebounds for the Nuggets, and Goran Dragic scored 22 points for Miami.
Bulls 117, Pelicans 110
Jimmy Butler scored 25 of his game-high 39 points in the first half to help Chicago to its fourth straight win. The Bulls are seventh in Eastern Conference, a game ahead the Pacers and Heat. Bobby Portis scored 21 off the bench for Chicago, which posted its sixth consecutive victory over the Pelicans.
Raptors 113, 76ers 105
Serge Ibaka scored 24 points and grabbed six rebounds to lead the Toronto, which shot 54 percent from the field. DeMar DeRozan added 17 points and nine assists for the Raptors, who have won two in a row and eight of their past nine games.
Nets 91, Hawks 82
Brook Lopez scored 29 points for Brooklyn and moved within 60 points of Buck Williams (10,440) for the most in franchise history. The Nets are 9-10 in their past 19 games. Dennis Schroder led the Hawks with 16 points. Paul Millsap returned from missing eight games with an injured left knee and added 14 points on 4-of-14 shooting in 26 minutes.
Warriors 139, Wizards 115
Stephen Curry scored 15 of his game-high 42 points in a third-quarter runaway as Golden State extended its winning streak to 11 games with a victory over Washington. The two-time defending NBA Most Valuable Player topped 40 points for the fourth time this season, and Draymond Green recorded his fourth triple-double of the season with 11 points, 12 rebounds and 13 assists.
Bojan Bogdanovic and Bradley Beal each scored 20 points for Washington, which fell a game behind Toronto in the race for third place in the East.
Rockets 123, Suns 116
Patrick Beverley and Troy Williams set career highs with 26 and 21 points respectively, to help short-handed Houston end a season-worst three-game losing streak. The Rockets were without starters James Harden (flu), Trevor Ariza (death in family) and Ryan Anderson (ankle). Houston lost a fourth starter when Sam Dekker broke his left hand and exited with 5:20 remaining in the game. — Reuters
