The security authorities have launched investigations into Tuesday evening's shootout in Riyadh and the killing of a policeman in Qatif in the Eastern Province. Security forces killed a suspected Daesh militant when he pulled a gun on a patrol in Riyadh, the Interior Ministry said on Wednesday. The patrol was trying to check a complaint on Tuesday evening that a resident of a flat in the capital's Al-Rayan district had joined the Daesh (the so-called IS) group. "When security men tried to arrest him, he resisted and pulled a gun. So it became necessary to deal with him and neutralize him, which led to his death," the ministry said in a statement carried by Saudi Press Agency. A companion of the dead man was arrested and found to be in possession of a weapon, it said. In a separate incident, a policeman was shot dead by unidentified assailants in Tarout in Qatif in the Eastern Province. In a statement Interior Ministry spokesman Maj. Gen. Mansour Al-Turki said policeman Musa DakhailAllah Al-Sharari was shot dead in his car. Daesh has claimed a series of deadly shootings and bombings since late 2014 in the Kingdom. Earlier this year, security officers shot dead two suspected militants including an explosive belt maker during a police operation in northern Riyadh.
