Kings stun Warriors in OT
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 06 - 02 - 2017

The Sacramento Kings up-ended the Golden State Warriors 109-106 in overtime Saturday, ending a 13-game losing streak against the NBA Western Conference power.
Kings forward DeMarcus Cousins scored 32 points with 12 rebounds and nine assists as Sacramento bounced back from a heart-breaking loss to the Phoenix Suns Friday, when Devin Booker's buzzer-beater sealed the win for the last-place team in the West.
Warriors coach Steve Kerr had already been ejected from the game when it came down to the final seconds of overtime.
With the Warriors down 107-106, NBA Most Valuable Player Stephen Curry missed two layups that could have given them the lead.
Darren Collison made two free throws to stretch Sacramento's lead to 109-106 with 2.5 seconds remaining and Warriors forward Draymond Green, wide open at the top of the three-point arc, missed as the final tenths of a second ticked off the clock.
A technical foul called on Green, for arguing a call against teammate Kevon Looney, riled Kerr in the third quarter. Kerr stormed the court and was thrown out of the game.
His Warriors had struggled throughout. Kevin Durant finished with 10 points, connecting on just two of his 10 attempts from the floor.
Curry led the Warriors with 35 points and nine assists. Klay Thompson added 26 points for the Warriors, who suffered just their eighth defeat of the season against 43 victories.
Spurs 121, Nuggets 97: Manu Ginobili and Tony Parker scored 18 points apiece and combining to make 13 of 14 shots from the floor as San Antonio waltzed past Denver on a record-setting night for coach Gregg Popovich.
Popovich, in his 21st season leading the Spurs, moved to the top of the standings for coaching wins with one franchise in league history with the victory. Popovich has compiled a 1,128-496 record since replacing Bob Hill as San Antonio's coach on Dec. 10, 1996 (after the 18th game of the 1996-97 season) and passed former Utah coach Jerry Sloan. Legendary Boston Celtics coach Red Auerbach is third on the list with 795 wins.
Cavaliers 111, Knicks 104: LeBron James poured in 32 points and became the youngest player to score 28,000 in a career as the Cleveland Cavaliers knocked off the New York Knicks 111-104.
The 32-year-old James has scored 28,020 points, good for eighth place on the NBA list. He also had 10 assists. James is two assists from passing Lenny Wilkens (7,211) for 13th place on the NBA's career list.
Wizards 105, Pelicans 91: John Wall had 24 points and 13 assists as Washington extended their NBA-high home winning streak to 17 games with a victory over New Orleans.
Heat 125, 76ers 102: Hassan Whiteside produced 30 points, 20 rebounds and three blocks to lead Miami over Philadelphia for its 10th straight victory.
Pacers 105, Pistons 84: Paul George led six players in double figures with 21 points and Indiana pulled away from the Detroit Pistons.
Hawks 113, Magic 86: Atlanta, which overcame a 20-point deficit in the final eight minutes at Houston in its previous game, didn't have to worry about staging a comeback this time.
Jazz 105, Hornets 98: Gordon Hayward scored a season-high 33 points and George Hill added 25 points to help Utah rally late to beat Charlotte.
Bucks 137, Suns 112: Giannis Antetokounmpo scored 18 of his 30 points in the first quarter and Milwaukee weathered a 27-point second quarter by Phoenix guard Devin Booker and steamrolled the Suns.
Grizzlies 107, Timberwolves 99: JaMychal Green scored a career-high 29 points and Mike Conley added 20 points and eight assists as short-handed Memphis managed a gritty win against Minnesota. — Agencies
