JEDDAH — Pakistan International School, Azizia was filled with cheers, zeal, excitement and fervent atmosphere on the much awaited Sports Day. The 31st Annual Sports Day organized by the sports committee under the aegisof the Vice Principal Farhat Naeem was held with enthusiasm. The pleasant weather was the perfect boost for the participants and guests as the event started with the Vice Principal escorting the wife of Consul General Soniya Sheryar to the stage with a Guard of Honor by the students.
Muneera Masood, Bintul Hassan and Shamim Anwar, hosts for the day welcomed the guests while Aisha Nazeer recitated the Surah Rehman.
"It is the day of rejoicing, and a day of game and perform – drill and thrill as the students of grade 6-12 exhibited their athletic talent," said Masood. The event proceeded with the flag hoisting ceremony by the chief guest and national anthems of Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.
Previously called as March Past, salute competition displayed uniformity, vibrant colors and team work. Uqaab, Sarfarosh, Zarb-e-Momin and Pasbaan-e-Watan showed tremendous harmony and passion as the judges observed them.
Farhat Naeem welcomed the esteemed gathering also on behalf of Principal Mohammad Bilal, without whose support and cooperation the day would not have been such a success. She emphasized the importance of sports in a child's life. In her address, she acknowledged PISJ as the heart of Pakistani community and pride of the nation.
"It is a memorable event that infuses the spirit of cooperation and mutual understanding. Sports give us the zest for life which is necessary for mental and physical health leading towards a happy life," Naeem remarked, adding, "The credibility of my students and teachers will amaze everyone, and PISJ will continue to strive and achieve excellence in curricular and extracurricular activities."
The vibrant opening ceremony mesmerized the audience as Shehryar cut the ribbon. The games of the past such as skipping, climbing trees competed with that of the present – such as hover boards. Shamim Anwar then called the PT team that displayed marvelous sportsmanship. Soon after VP presented Shehryar with the honorary shield.
Then the members of the Sports Committee Khalida Tariq, Amina Farooqi, Munazza Raja, Tahira Qadir, Saira Ashraf, Bushra Qamar, Haseeba, Asiya , Najeeha Mairaj and Fakeha Komal appreciated the support of Farhat Naeem and presented her with the shield. "Naeem has won hearts of everyone because of her kindness and cooperative attitude," the members expressed. Furthermore, the sports committee acknowledged the 30 years long services of DPE Fatima Sabiha for the school and conferred her with the shield. Sports Secretary and In charges surprised Sabiha by appreciating her with honorary shield during which placards giving her various titles such as Our Mentor, Our Strength Great Lady, forever influence were held high by students.
The event proceeded with tug of war and House skits, which was the amalgam of iconic characters such as Mr. Bean, Charlie Chaplin, Bulbulay and 50-50 with that of sports. Prize distribution was held soon after to reward the winners of salutation, gymnastics and tug of War. The last event of the day was the mind blowing gymnastics performance showing that anything is possible, only with belief.
Soniya Sheryar's address to the gathering brought the curtain down on the event. "I am beyond words to describe this beautiful, well organized and well-presented event," said wife of CG while recognizing the school's effort. "You are the future of our country. Take care of your parents and teachers, respect them because they are the reason you are getting educated," stated Shehryar in her address to the students.
