Homes for displaced citizens
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 07 - 02 - 2012

King Abdullah, Custod ian of the Two Holy Mosques, the humanitarian King, is well aware of the enormous responsibility he has in caring for the needs of all of his people, whether they be men, women or children and no matter in which part of the Kingdom they may reside. King Abdullah is especially aware of the suffering of those forced to leave their homes and farms because of the need to secure the country's borders from infiltrators who intend to harm the nation and its people.
That is why he ordered that houses should be built in Jizan for those displaced citizens who were affected by problems that took place at the Kingdom's southern border with Yemen a few years ago. At that time Saudi citizens who lived in the border area had to leave their homes with whatever possessions they could carry in order to protect themselves and their families.
Temporary accommodation was provided for these families with all the necessary facilities including schools and hospitals and King Abdullah promised that permanent homes would be built for them.
He further promised that the houses provided to citizens would have all the necessary modern public services, such as schools, roads, sanitary drainage networks, electricity and polyclinics.
SR6 billion was allocated to implement this housing project for those displaced from the border area. The project calls for the construction of 6,000 modern residential units, providing accommodation and public services to 6,000 families which will be more than enough to house all of those who were displaced from their former homes.
Some parts of this enormous housing project have been completed and in a month's time one-third of these units will be handed over to the beneficiaries, according to the Minister of Social Affairs.
All of this is in line with King Abdullah's concern that all citizens be provided with adequate housing which is why he created the Ministry of Housing last year and ordered that SR250 billion be set aside for the construction of 500,000 housing units in all parts of the Kingdom. __
