HYDERABAD — Chief Minister of the southern Indian state of Telangana unveiled new districts on Tuesday, fulfilling one of his poll promises for effective and efficient administration and delivery of welfare and development programs. With the creation of 21 new districts the number of districts in the state rose to 31 from 10. Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao formally inaugurated the new district of Siddipet in his home town, which was carved out of Medak at the auspicious time of 11.13 a.m. on Tuesday. Addressing a public meeting, the chief minister who is better known as KCR, said he was happy that, in one stroke, the administration all over the state had now gone to the doorsteps of the people. "The smaller districts will enable the administration to work more effectively to serve the people," he said describing it as an "unforgettable day". KCR announced a slew of development plans to develop Siddipet, 100 km away from Hyderabad into an attractive and big city. He announced an assistance of Rs1 billion (SR55 million) for the development projects and promised a medical college and a university in the proposed city. Earlier the chief minister inaugurated the new district collectorate building in the presence of ministers, including Irrigation Minister T. Harish Rao and top officials by unfurling the national flag and performing religious rituals. Later he reached Ambedkar Cross Roads in a big rally. He reminded the people of Siddipet that he was their own child. "I am your son, nourished and brought up by you. I could achieve Telangana state due to your blessings", he said. "You had sent me to achieve Telangana and I have done it". Telangana, which has a population of 3.5 crore, was carved out of Andhra Pradesh and it came into existence as India's 29th state on June 2, 2014. Telangana Assembly speaker S. Madhusudhana Chary inaugurated Jayashankar district while Council Chairman K. Swamy Goud launched Jangaon district. Both these districts are being carved out of existing Warangal district. Warangal Rural, another district is being carved out of existing Warangal district was inaugurated by Deputy CM K. Sri Hari. Another Deputy Chief Minister Mohammed Mahmood Ali inaugurated Jagitial district, created out of existing Karimnagar district. Sixteen other districts inaugurated on Tuesday were; Yadadri, Peddapally, Kamareddy, Medak, Mancherial, Vikarabad, Rajanna, Asifabad, Suryapet, Kothagudem, Nirmal, Wanaparthy, Nagarkurnool, Mahabubabad, Jogulamba and Medchal (Malkajgiri). Barring Hyderabad, the existing 10 districts have been split into three or four districts. The government has also created 25 new revenue divisions, 125 new mandals, four new police commissionerates, 23 new police subdivisions, 28 new circles and 91 police stations.
