A medical team at King Abdulaziz Hospital here has removed a 15-kilogram tumor from the abdomen of a Saudi patient. The tumor had surrounded the left kidney and the left side of the colon. Another tumor was removed on the right side of the abdomen which had shrunk the intestine, said Dr. Ehab Al-Husseini, Consultant of Oncology Surgery and head of the Surgical Team. He said biopsies showed the tumor was malignant and had to be removed. The surgical team removed it, along with the left kidney and part of the colon, after it had separated the main arteries and veins in the abdomen and pelvis. Dr. Muhammad Faisal Al-Mubarak, the hospital's Supervisor General, said the operation was classified among the most complicated procedures undertaken in the hospital over the past few years. This showed the competency of the medical team, Al-Mubarak said. The medical team included Dr. Abdul Latif Al-Derais, Dr. Maisa Al-Ekhwan, Dr. Nihad Abdul Ghafar and Dr. Muhammad Ansari, a press release from the hospital said.
