ABHA — The people of Ahad Rafidah in the southern Asir province voiced complaints against the municipal council, accusing it of neglecting their problems. Saad Sayyaf said it has been nine months since the beginning of the third phase of the council's projects and we have seen nothing on the ground. "The members of the council have not shown any interest to meet with the people to hear from them about their needs and demands. Meeting the general public is a part of their duty. Isn't there any directorate responsible to evaluate and supervise the municipal council members?" said Sayyaf. Abdullah Al-Sharif said the people of Ahad Rafidah demanded a more proactive role from the council and demanded that all municipality projects be accomplished on schedule. "We have not seen anything happen on the ground. We have needs and demands that are not being met and we don't know who to complain to," said Al-Sharif. Saeed Al-Malki said the council does not pay much attention to the youth of the governorate. "The families complain about the lack of parks in various neighborhoods and villages. The southern part of the governorate is totally neglected. There needs to be an entity that is responsible for monitoring the activities and work schedule of the council," said Al-Malki. Abdullah Al-Shawati said the municipal council is supposed to hold a meeting with the general public every four months. "More than five months have passed and our council has not held a meeting yet. Isn't there anyone responsible for penalizing the council members for their negligence?" said Al-Shawati. A source said the council has scheduled a meeting with members of the general public after much debate. "The meeting is to be held at the beginning of December," said the source.
