Okaz/Saudi Gazette KHAMIS MUSHAYT — A lack of pedestrian bridges along Ahad Rafidah Road has caused several fatal accidents in this southern tourist city. Pedestrians, especially students, have to brave speeding vehicles in order to cross the road and a number of them have been run over. "The absence of pedestrian bridges along Khamis Mushayt-Ahad Rafidah highway has made it one of the most dangerous roads in the southern region," said Mohammed Fehaid, a resident of the city. He urged the authorities to establish pedestrian bridges along the road to save precious lives. "Khamis Mushayt is a busy commercial city with lots of people visiting its markets. People want to move from one side of the road to another for various purposes. Pedestrian bridges will ensure safe crossing of this busy road," said Abdullah Al-Thabit. Yahya Bin Salamah emphasized the need for pedestrian bridges to ensure safety of students who cross the busy road while going to and returning from schools located along this vital artery. "The absence of bridges is endangering lives," he added. He urged the authorities to start work on pedestrian bridges along the road immediately after identifying the ideal locations. "Khamis Mushayt is also a major tourist center in the Kingdom and it attracts a large number of tourists from inside and outside the country," he pointed out. Mubarak Zenaid urged the authorities to establish pedestrian bridges near all schools and government offices in order to avoid run-over accidents and reduce difficulties faced by students while crossing the road on their way to schools and back home.
