Saudi Border Guards release pictures to report their success in foiling large-scale attempts to smuggle nearly a ton of explosives and various other arms and ammunition into the Kingdom through the southern border. The seizures were made in the second quarter of this year. Besides the ton of explosives, the seizures included 13 hand grenades, 99 dynamite sticks, 109 weapons of various types, 12 bomb fuses, 100 coils of detonation wire, 1 rocket propelled grenade, and more than 15,000 different types of ammunition. The Guards arrested up to 800 smugglers and 83 illegals in the border operations. Additionally, they seized more than 1,600 kg of hashish and some 2 million narcotic pills. The seizures were far higher than in the first quarter when more than 500 kg of explosives, 18 hand grenades, and different weapons and ammunition were reported. – By Abdullah Al
