MANILA — With a new import that keeps getting better and better, the Barangay Ginebra Kings rolled to their third victory in four outings with a 107-93 thrashing of the Meralco Bolts in a PBA Governors' Cup road game in Lucena City Saturday night. Justin Brownlee, who replaced injured import Paul Harris, once again led the Kings, posting 26 points and a team-high six assists. Sol Mercado also sparkled for Ginebra off the bench, finishing with 19 points on 5-for-6 shooting from the field, including 3-for-3 from three-point range and 6-for-7 from the free throw line. He also dished out four assists. Japeth Aguilar added 15 markers while Mark Caguioa chipped in 13. Meralco suffered a second straight loss and fell to an even 2-2 win-loss card. Clinging to a shaky three-point lead with less than five minutes left, the Kings unleashed a 12-1 run, eight of those points coming from Mercado, to erect a 14-point lead, 102-88, with 1:53 remaining in the game. After Meralco's Reynel Hugnatan hit a free throw, Aguilar sealed the Ginebra win with a three-pointer. Jones Cup Philippines 80, Egypt 61 Philippines-Mighty Sports found a tougher than expected opponent in Egypt but still cruised to victory, 80-61, their seventh straight, at the 2016 William Jones Cup Saturday at Xinzhuang Stadium in Taiwan. The Philippine team, already assured of the championship as of Friday, will go for a sweep against lowly Chinese Taipei B in their final game Sunday. Former NBA veteran Al Thornton finished with 20 points and 15 rebounds to once again spearhead PH-Mighty Sports. Dewarick Spencer scored 19 points while Mike Singletary added 11 markers. Filipino player Edrick Ferrer sank three straight triples in the dying seconds of the game to score nine points. Egypt kept the game close until the fourth period when Thornton and company went on a rampage. Asia U-18 Championship China 85, Philippines 55 The Philippine national youth basketball team took another beating from China, 85-55, in the classification phase of the FIBA Asia Under-18 Championship in Tehran, Iran, Saturday. The loss relegated the Batang Gilas to the battle for seventh-to-eighth places where they will face either Chinese Taipei or India. A day after losing to South Korea in the quarterfinals, Batang Gilas had no answer to the firepower of China, the former defending champions dethroned by host Iran in the knockout stages. China also routed the Philippines, 95-66, during the elimination round.
