Statistics issued by the Ministry of Justice stated that 40,394 divorce deeds among Saudis were issued by various courts in the Kingdom in all regions during the year 1436H (2015) and the total of marriage contracts was 133,687 for Saudis. The statistics pointed that the number of divorce deeds issued in Makkah among Saudis is 10,345, followed by Riyadh with 9,470 deeds, Eastern Province with 4,727 deeds, Asir courts with 3,462 deeds, Madinah which issued 2,913 deeds, followed by Qassim area with 2,346 deeds, then Jazan courts with 1,572 deeds. According to marriage statistics, contract for Saudis last year reached 133,687. Of them 29,200 were in the Riyadh region, 32,421 in Makkah region, 13,759 in Asir region, 12,482 contracts in the Eastern Province, 10,059 in Al-Madinah region. Jazan area with 8,702 contracts is followed by Qassim with 7,035 contracts. Personal Status Courts and Public Courts in various regions and cities of the Kingdom have jurisdiction in all matters of personal status to conduct marriage, divorce, alimony and visitations, proof of endowment and inheritance, as well as to establish the values of a minor mentally. The statistics also motioned that total divorce deeds issued for Saudi men to non-Saudi women were 1,593 while the total divorce deeds of Saudi women married to Saudi men were 700. The number of marriage contracts of Saudi men married to non-Saudi women were 3,686. As for the total number of divorce deeds for Saudis and non-Saudis issued in the Kingdom over the last year was 46,373 and the total of marriage contracts was 157,178 Saudi and non-Saudi citizens and residents.
