Nationals hand Tigers seventh straight loss
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 11 - 05 - 2016

Pinch-hitter Clint Robinson hit a solo homer with one out in the bottom of the ninth off Mark Lowe as the Washington Nationals beat the Detroit Tigers 5-4 Monday, sending the Tigers to their seventh loss in a row.
Robinson's homer came one batter after Danny Espinosa was ejected after he was called out on strikes by home plate umpire Brian Knight.
Marlins 4, Brewers 1: Jose Fernandez stuck out 11 batters in seven scoreless innings and the Miami Marlins beat the Milwaukee Brewers 4-1 Monday despite a Miami run being taken off the scoreboard when J.T. Realmuto passed teammate Marcell Ozuna on the basepaths after hitting a home run.
Fernandez (4-2) allowed four hits and four walks while improving to 20-1 at home in his 30th start at Marlins Park. The seven innings are a season high.
Reds 3, Pirates 2: Joey Votto hit a game-tying home run in the sixth and catcher Tucker Barnhart added a go-ahead solo shot in the seventh as the Cincinnati Reds held on for a 3-2 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates Monday in the opener of a three-game series at Great American Ball Park.
Zack Cozart also homered, and Billy Hamilton had three hits for Cincinnati (14-19).
Yankees 6, Royals 3: Yankees closer Aroldis Chapman allowed a run in the ninth inning during his season debut, and New York hit five solo home runs, two by Carlos Beltran, in a 6-3 victory over the Kansas City Royals.
After completing his 30-day suspension for an offseason domestic-violence incident, Chapman was activated from the restricted list.
Astros 7, Indians 1: Mike Fiers outdueled Corey Kluber and produced his best start of the season as the Houston Astros took the opener of a three-game series with the Cleveland Indians 7-1.
Fiers (3-1) allowed one run on three hits and two walks with four strikeouts over seven innings. His lone hiccup came in the sixth inning when he surrendered a leadoff double to nine-hole hitter Rajai Davis, who eventually scored following three consecutive groundball outs.
Red Sox 14, A's 7: The Boston Red Sox shelled struggling Oakland ace Sonny Gray for six runs in the fourth inning, and Jackie Bradley Jr. hit a grand slam and drove in six runs in a 14-7 rout of the Athletics in the opener of a three-game series.
David Ortiz stroked two doubles and Bradley had a two-run single in the big inning that wiped out a 4-1 deficit and helped send the A's to their third straight loss. Oakland have allowed 24 runs in their past two games.
Diamondbacks 10, Rockies 5: The Arizona Diamondbacks struck for five runs with two outs in the fifth, and they rode that go-ahead uprising to a 10-5 win over the Colorado Rockies.
Jean Segura began the fateful rally with a homer, and Jake Lamb, who had four RBIs, delivered the key hit, a three-run homer, as the Diamondbacks beat the Rockies for just the second time in seven meetings this year.
In other games it was: White Sox 8, Rangers 4; Mariners 5, Rays 2; Blue Jays 3, Giants 1; Mets 4, Dodgers 2; Orioles vs. Twins postponed; Cubs vs. Padres postponed. — Agencies
