Physical fitness is not only one of the most important keys to a healthy body, it is the basis of dynamic and creative intellectual activity.” - John F Kennedy
Fitness has no age barriers and Muhammad Bin Abdullah Al-Muhaimid has proved it. He is 70 years old, young at heart and physically fit as men half his age. Al-Watan spotted him jogging on a treadmill amid other fitness enthusiasts at the Fitness Time in Al-Qassim.
He, almost, daily works out at the gym and other members at the complex admire his stamina and interest in remaining physically active.
“I underwent a neurological and brain operation seven years ago to relieve chronic neurological pain in my neck that I had suffered for years. After recovery from the operation, I enrolled in the gym to help my body regain its strength and vigor.
Becoming a member at the gym helps me remain steadfast in my commitment to exercising, dispels boredom when working out because there are always a variety of different activities I can do, and provides a platform for me to socialize with other men in my community,” said Al-Muhaimid.
In his opinion, age should never be an obstacle for exercising or being physically active.
Regular exercise has many health benefits and should not be put off by excuses such as old age or lack of time.
Al-Muhaimid's fitness trainer, Abdul Hadi Al-Qaeda said, “Physical activity is not restricted to a limited segment of society and is definitely not tied to age. Everyone can exercise. Even if elderly men and women have never exercised before, they can safely enroll in an exercise program by starting out slowly with moderate exercises and gradually increase the duration and intensity of the exercise. Research has proven that regular exercise can prevent obesity and a number of diseases.
The key to seeing the amazing results in weight loss and in improving overall health is continuity and consistency. I always urge gym members to avoid making the mistake of showing up at the gym for a month or two, and then quitting.”
“It is rare to find someone whose hair has turned white exercising at the gym. Seeing Muhammad working out at the gym inspires and motivates me to work harder and to stick to my exercise regimen here at the fitness center,” said a young friend of Al
