JEDDAH — Dar Al-Hekma University celebrated the coronation of 16 Hafizah (who memorized the Holy Qur'an) recently. Dar Al Qur'an, a center dedicated to the memorization of the Qur'an organized the ceremony titled "Glory and Reverence" to celebrate the ninth batch at Dar Al-Hekma University.
The coronation ceremony was an event that included Dar Al-Hekma family, the Hafizat's families in addition to many invitees from outside the university. This year Dar Al-Hekma also launched the "Glory and Reverence" fruit tree, which includes the names of all Dar Al-Hekma University's Hafizat over the years. So far, Dar Al-Hekma graduated 117 student Hafizah, five employees Hafizah and 17 women Hafizah from outside the university.
"Our Holy Qur'an is the secret of our excellence and success. The Qur'an is the heart and soul of Dar Al-Hekma and the reason behind the blessings and baraka that reach every corner of this place as well as every person who belongs to this community. It opens our hearts and minds and increases our philanthropic deeds of giving, doing good and excelling in our output. Dar Al-Hekma University is known for its interest in religion and how religion impacts our daily lives. Years passed and the influence of the Qur'an has increased and left its mark in this blessed institution," said Dr. Suhair Hassan Al Qurashi, the president of Dar Al-Hekma University.
The program included a video documenting the memorizers' trip to Madinah, which was part of the award for their distinctive achievement. Another part of the event was the recitation of verses from the Qur'an by the memorizers.
"In Dar Al-Hekma University the educational strategy wisely made memorizing, interpreting and understanding the Qur'an then applying it a way to hone the students' character. The Qur'an is not a spiritual religious book for worship only, but it is a way of life that calls for education, hard work and the advancement of nations. That is how Dar Al Qur'an was established, as one of the university clubs that teaches the Qur'an to the university's students, faculty and staff," said Dr. Sanaa Askool, dean of student affairs.
"Dar Al-Hekma University organizes a lot of events, but this celebration is especially cherished by all. That is why I try to do my best to honor the Hafizat with a ceremony in a manner worthy of the people of the Qur'an. We do this to achieve a sense of "Glory and Reverence", the sense of coronation with dignity; I am happy that we were able to create a celebration which the whole of Dar Al-Hekma eagerly looks forward to every two years," said Lina Kurdi, the community services senior officer at the university.
Many philanthropists were involved in organizing the event, most importantly Advanced National Agency led by Wissam Kurdi. Al-Qaswa provided a trip to Madinah as a gift to the Hafizat.
Hanan Ibrahim, a first-year student in finance and banking, took first place for memorizing 20 chapters of the Qur'an with the proper recitation, in the contest in the Great Qur'anic studies section for the students of Jeddah province, that was in King Faisal Conference Center.
Dar Al Qur'an is a center in Dar Al-Hekma University that is dedicated to teaching the Holy Qur'an and it started with the establishment of the university back in 1999. Due to an overwhelming interest in Qur'an learning the center turned to Dar Al-Qur'an four years ago to focus more on the Book of Allah.
Dar Al-Hekma University thrives to graduate accomplished women, leaders and entrepreneurs. Thus, the university's work on developing a holistic person by working on five basic pillars, one is the spiritual and religious side.
