Salvador shines at Jeddah Open Badminton

A two-day badminton fest, conducted by Evenlode Badminton Club of Dammam and Jeddah Badminton Club, was a huge success.
Salvador Kapunan of Riyadh clinched the top honor of the event — Premier men's singles crown — beating Saudi national badminton coach Ammar Awad 19-21, 21-10, 21-11.
In the premier doubles Ralph and Salvador took revenge of their Dammam Open loss by beating Jaffer and Ammar 17-21, 21-19, 19-21. The winners were awarded cash prizes, trophies and airline tickets. SportsOne also awarded Saina Nehwal-autographed T-shirts to the winners and runners-up.
Brand Ambassador Jaffer Ebrahim, who is the Middle East development manager for World Badminton Federation (BWF) and Olympic player of Bahrain, along with tournament officials, sponsors, Saudi Badminton Committee representatives Ammar and Alayan and OICC Jeddah President Muneer, inaugurated the event.
Junior Arab champion Adnan Ebrahim of Bahrain executed the oath of sportsmanship.
Around 850 players took part in the event. The 474 matches were played on the eight courts of Olympia Sports Complex.
Eapen Mathews, the tournament chairman, appreciated the participants. The organizers also thanked the sponsors for helping make the event a success.
Among them were: SportsOne, Pepsi, Western Union, Sinmar, Delta Racquet Shop, Philippine Airlines, Aeroplane ShuttleCock, Al-Rajhi Aviation, Almarai.
