The Art Zone is an inspired creative haven at the Mother of the Nation Festival
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 02 - 04 - 2016

up kiosks selling a myriad of creative wooden and woven handmade artifacts to live musicians playing instruments to the tune of pop music, fascinating artistic installations and engaging workshops are making a splash at the Mother of the Nation Festival's Art zone.
One of five distinct zones at the Festival, and specifically designed to illustrate "The Art of Motherhood" through engagement and artistic expression, the Art zone offers a diverse palette of activations influenced by the core principles of art: Unity, Balance, Contrast, Movement, Pattern, Rhythm and Emphasis.

In a space that allows members of the entire family to unleash their creative flare as they absorb the surrounding interactive atmosphere, visitors can meander through a winding pathway that stimulates every sense, with a collection of themes and activities that further illuminate motherhood as a rich tapestry of events and experiences that combine to nurture and inspire unity within families.
A favorite for the young amongst the crowd whose passions include opportunities to paint, draw, cut, paste and create, the Art Zone is a haven for festival attendees who are intent on allowing their creatively-inspired side to run wild. A ‘Coloring Station', ‘Collective Sculpture', and ‘Connect the Dots' keeps visitors busy with colorful projects, while ‘Live Art' decorates the zone's pathway with breath-taking masterpieces.
Pop-up art kiosks dotted across the Art Zone award visitors and souvenir enthusiasts an opportunity to purchase hand woven baskets, carved wooden artifacts, bespoke clothing items, jewelry pieces and decorative goods created by established local and international artists and craftspeople.
The Art Zone also showcases world-class roaming performers and live bands from across the world, playing authentic musical instruments or singing soulful renditions of modern day music. All performances invoke both inspiration and entertainment, and can be viewed from the comfort of colorful beanbags and painted park benches placed in nature-inspired seating areas.
Held along 1.3 km of Abu Dhabi Corniche, the Mother of the Nation Festival consists of five distinct zones: the Souq zone, Beach Dining zone, Art zone, Active zone, and the Conservation zone. Each zone is specially designed to stimulate visitors with a vibrant and engaging atmosphere for individuals and families, while offering a vast array of scheduled contemporary-themed, artistic and cultural activities, which illustrate the impact of heritage preservation across the UAE.
Tickets are on sale for AED 20 for adults, AED 10 for children below 12 years, and free entrance for children below 5 years old. Proceeds from the festival will be donated to a charity chosen by the festival's organizing committee.
Shuttle buses are available to transport passengers along the festival site between the East Plaza on the Corniche and the dedicated parking at Nation Towers. Buses will make trips at 5-minute intervals, with five stops along the Corniche, and one additional stop at the Marina, shuttling passengers at 10-minute intervals.
Mother of the Nation Festival
The Mother of the Nation Festival highlights the inspirational values of Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak. It is organised by the Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority.
Throughout multiple and diverse activity zones, the festival creates an entertaining and highly interactive atmosphere that welcomes families and individuals from all walks of life. Abu Dhabi invites the entire UAE community to enjoy a day out on the Corniche and participate in this unique event for all that celebrates the best aspects of contemporary culture within the UAE and its capital.
The festival features five distinct areas: the Souq Zone, the Beach Dining Zone, the Active Zone, the Art Zone, and the Conservation Zone, as well as The Pavilion; all designed to offer entertaining and engaging activities for all family members. It promotes the importance of family coherence as well as nurturing cultural understanding amongst the UAE society.
The festival runs from 24th March to 2nd April, 2016 and opens its doors daily from 4:00 pm to midnight. Tickets must be purchased at the festival entrance for AED 20 per adult and AED 10 for children under 12, while children aged 5 and under are admitted for free. The proceeds from the festival will be donated to a charity chosen by the organizing committee.
