8 things to do in Girona

If you have seen Barcelona multiple times, and are looking to explore further afield, Girona, only an hour from Barcelona, is a great option for a new Spanish city to explore.
Tourist can either rent a car or catch a train to reach this historical city that was originally founded by the Romans.
Since the Romans, Girona has been under the control of the Moors and Franks before coming under Barcelona's rule.
As a result, the city has a full heritage and multiple cultures, and it's easy to see where old and new Girona begin and end.
Walk through La Rambla de la Libertat
One of the things that people can enjoy while visiting Girona is walking down La Rambla de la Libertat, Girona's most famous street. While walking tourists, can enjoy Spanish food and tapas, and can also go shopping in the streets many international boutiques located in the traditional European buildings that line the street.
Walk along the River Onyar
Tourists will enjoy walking the 11 bridges that cross the river and seeing the colourful houses that line its banks.
Visit the Museu del Cinema
The museum is one of Girona's most interesting and showcases the history of cameras and the different types that are used in cinema and photography.
Walk the Jewish Quarter
The quarter can be visited after walking La Rambla de la Libertat. The quarter is home to some of Girona's oldest architecture, including the homes of it's Jewish residents. Several museums showcase the city's Jewish history.
Visit the History Museum of Girona
This Museum provides visitors with the history of Girona, from the time of the Romans until current days, its economic condition, types of employment, and the the city's expansion. Entry fees are around two Euros.
Visit the Girona Cathedral
The cathedral is one of the city's most important and vital tourist sites. The architecture of the Cathedral, and its stairs, make it an unique place to visit.
See the Arab Baths
Although there is no clear history of Arabs living in Girona, the Arab baths could be an indication that they were there. The baths are inspired by the Roman style, and in the past it was a place where people came to take baths and relax.
Buy Souvenirs
Visitors can also buy souvenirs for their families and friends from the city. Several shops are open in different historical areas in the city. Girona and Barcelona symbols, as well as models of famous buildings are available, while other souvenirs are made from different natural fabrics.
