A THAI feature film, "Where the Miracle Happens", along with "Love en Route", a short film on tourism, was screened at the residence of the Indonesian consul general in Jeddah Wednesday as part of the ongoing 9th Asian Film Festival 2016.
The festival was organized by the Asian Consuls General's Club. Thai Consul General Thanis Na Songkhla welcomed the guests and introduced the films.
"Where the Miracle Happens" was a film by Princess Ubolratana Rajakanya Siri Vadhana Phannavadi, the eldest daughter of Thailand's King Bhumibol Adulyadej. The film is part of the "Miracle of Life" project run by the princess.
Some Thai children are deprived of the opportunity to have a good education and this project aims to help the underprivileged develop their potential.
Sirippakorn Wongjariyawat directed the 98-minute film, which was released in 2008.
The film is the heart-warming story of Pimdao, a successful businesswoman played by the princess herself. She values material things until she loses her only daughter in a car accident. She then begins a new journey of life and searches for her true happiness.
Set in a remote village school surrounded by nature, the woman is fascinated by the kind-hearted local people whose hearts unite into one. She finally discovers that happiness lies upon an evergreen hill.
"If even the most stone-hearted cynics let their defenses down just a bit, they will be shedding tears by the end of ‘Where the Miracle Happens'," a Thai journal wrote when the film was released.
"Love en Route", which preceded the feature film, is a romantic short movie intending to promote Thailand's tourism.
The video, co-produced by Thailand's Culture Ministry and the Tourism Authority, describes how an American tourist embarks on a journey across Thailand to mend his broken heart.
Thailand had the highest number of tourist arrivals of approximately 30 million in 2015, an increase of 20.44 percent, said Na Songkhla. The largest number of tourists came from China, with almost 8 million arrivals, followed by neighboring Malaysia, which sent a record number of 3.4 million tourists last year, he added. Japanese came third with 1.4 million, said Na Songkhla.
