Crown Prince of Dubai shares ‘A Glimpse of the Past'
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 12 - 03 - 2016

Crown Prince of Dubai, Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, will showcase his private collection of photographs showing the UAE in the 50s, 60s and 70s at Dubai Photo Exhibition. The pictures are part of his private collection and are being exhibited for the first time ever at Dubai Design District. The exhibition will take place from March 16 to 19 and will showcase 700 artworks by 129 photographers. The Crown Prince also referred to, as ‘Fazza' is known for his passion for photography, adventure and even poetry. The showcase is a reflection of his love for photography, and offers an exclusive insight into the Trucial states of the 1960s and post-Union 1970s when the UAE was established.
In one of the photos, you can see the late Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum, speaking to a journalist. ""Even though he was 50 years old in the 1960s, he was full of energy and vigour for raising the profile of Dubai," a spokesperson for Dubai Photo Exhibition said.
The other picture shows children from a branch of Al-Awamir tribe that lived near Al-Ain in the 1960's known to have preserved old customs. Reportedly one of these customs was that when a woman delivered a baby after a long time of marriage, she would use cosmetics to beautify the child such as eyeliner and ear rings as an expression of long-awaited joy. Both pictures were taken by Oscar Mitri.
Organized by the Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum International Photography Award, the exhibition is supported by the World Photography Organization.
