Saudi Arabia's envoy to the UN told reporters on Friday that the only exit for the Yemeni quagmire was through a political solution. Abdullah Al-Mualami also said Saudi and Gulf states had been the principle donors for humanitarian relief to Yemen. He also urged the international community to press the Iran-backed Houthi militias to allow aid access to the besieged southwestern city of Taiz. Last week, Yemen's minister of local administration lambasted the UN and its humanitarian agencies for not being able to lift the ongoing sanctions against Taiz for the past nine months. Since March last year, the Saudi-led coalition has bombed Iranian-backed Houthi militias and forces allied to deposed leader Ali Abdullah Saleh in a bid to put the government of internationally recognized President Abdrabbu Mansour Hadi back in power. Meanwhile in Geneva, Yemeni Alliance for Human Rights organized a seminar at the UN on the sidelines of the 31st session of the human rights Council. Yemeni Alliance for Human Rights introduced a report on the human rights situation in Yemen from December 2014 to December 2015 as well as violations by Saleh's and Houthi militias. The report presented recommendations to the UN Security Council and the Human Rights Council stressing the need to implement international decisions particularly Resolutions 2140 and 2216 and decisions of the Human Rights Council.
