JEDDAH — "Dr. Khalid Javed Jan's poem — Main Baaghi Hoon has till yet remained among the most quoted poem in the political spectrum. It has become Jan's identity," said Dr. Mahmood Iqbal Haider. Dr. Khalid Javed has published five poetry collections and 15 books. Dr. Mahmood, a devoted friend of Dr. Khalid Jan, while chairing the event highlighted the intimacy of their friendship and Dr. Khalid's achievements and his poetic career since their college days . Halqa-e-Danish Jeddah organized a literary evening and Mushairah in honor of Dr. Khalid Javed Jan, a professional doctor, poet, journalist and writer in which a large number of poets, intellectuals and socialites participated. "We, the Punjabis, have ignored our mother tongue and served Urdu so much that Punjab has become famous for its Urdu poets. I was in contact with famous Urdu poet Ehsan Danish during college days and we shared a very affectionate bond," Dr. Khalid said, adding, "He was generous enough to publish my novel, when I completed my matriculation." "The poem "Main Baaghi Hoon", mentioned by my friends and critics, became so much popular during those days, that it was attributed to the senior poet Habib Jalib. In the second session of the literary evening, a Mushairah was organized. The program began with the recitation of a few verses from Holy Qur'an by Ahmad Mahroom. Famous Naat singer Sher Afzal recited Dr. Mahmood Iqbal Haider's Naat. Anwar Hussain was Master of the ceremony. The vote of thanks was proposed by Muhammad Mukhtar Ali. The program concluded with the supplication of Agha Muhammad Akram.
