This was announced by Japanese Consul General Matahiro Yamaguchi on the sidelines of the Japanese automobile maintenance and technical skills competition at the institute on Wednesday. A high level delegation from the Japanese Ministry of Commerce and Industry attended the function. Group D has won the first position in the competition held among some 250 young Saudi trainees. Yamaguchi congratulated the Saudi trainees for their excellent performance in automobile technology and training. He also unveiled the Japanese government's ambitious project of making investments worth $2 billion in petrochemical sector in Rabigh and a titanium plant in the Yanbu industrial city. Speaking on the occasion, Salem Al-Asmari, executive director of SJAHI, said the institute is a concrete manifestation of the long history of goodwill and cooperation between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the government of Japan. "It is one of the fruits of the long standing relations in the field of transfer of advanced technology for the benefit of young Saudi men," he said. SJAHI provides job-oriented technical training for young Saudi high school graduates having a zest to the automobile engineering and maintenance field with a distinct perspective in Japanese automobiles. So far, a total of 2,500 young Saudis have received specialized training in automobile technology and maintenance since the inception of the institute in 2004.
