Drew Stafford's offensive performance snapped the Winnipeg Jets out of their slump. Stafford had two goals, including the go-ahead score, and the Jets beat the Colorado Avalanche 4-2 Saturday night for just their second victory in the last seven games. "We needed a response tonight, especially the way last night went, the start that we had," said Stafford, referring to Jets' 5-3 loss to Carolina the night before. "For us to come out and have an effort like we did tonight is huge for us." Andrew Ladd and Mathieu Perreault also scored for the Jets, who beat the Avalanche for the first time in four tries this season. Stafford also had an assist, and Michael Hutchinson made 32 saves for Winnipeg. Mikhail Grigorenko and Matt Duchene had goals for the Avalanche. Jets coach Paul Maurice said Winnipeg succeeded in bottling up Colorado's speedy offense and continually applied pressure in Colorado's zone. "We were just on the puck," Maurice said. "We don't give them the room to skate pucks out and to use that speed. We just contested every puck." And Stafford's hard work on the ice was rewarded, Maurice added. Avalanche goalie Semyon Varlamov made 35 saves. Canadiens 5, Oilers 1: Tomas Plekanec scored a goal and added three assists to lift the Montreal Canadiens to a 5-1 victory over the Edmonton Oilers at the Bell Centre. Brendan Gallagher, Lars Eller, P.K. Subban and Tom Gilbert also scored for Montreal (25-24-4), who snapped a four-game losing streak. Rangers 3, Flyers 2 (SO): In a feisty game that featured 48 penalty minutes, the New York Rangers forced overtime in the final seconds of regulation before stealing a 3-2 shootout win over the Philadelphia Flyers at Wells Fargo Center. Mats Zuccarello and center Derek Stepan scored in the shootout to win it. Capitals 3, Devils 2 (SO): Alex Ovechkin scored the deciding goal in a shootout to give the Washington Capitals a 3-2 win over the New Jersey Devils at Prudential Center. Adam Henrique and Joseph Blandisi scored third-period goals to help the Devils erase a 1-0 deficit. Red Wings 5, Islanders 1: Dylan Larkin and Tomas Tatar each had a goal and an assist to lead the Detroit Red Wings to a 5-1 win over the New York Islanders at Joe Louis Arena. Tomas Jurco, Kyle Quincey and Mike Green also scored for Detroit, who broke a five-game home losing streak. The Red Wings' last win at Joe Louis Arena came on Dec. 20. Penguins 3, Panthers 2 (OT): The Pittsburgh Penguins got an overtime goal by Kris Letang with 3:33 left to snap the Florida Panthers' five-game win streak, rallying for a 3-2 win at the BB&T Center. Sidney Crosby got the assist and finished with three points, including the 900th of his career. Letang also had three points. Senators 6, Maple Leafs 1: The Ottawa Senators snapped a three-game losing streak with a 6-1 thumping of the Toronto Maple Leafs at Canadian Tire Centre. Curtis Lazar led the Senators with two goals. Bruins 2, Sabres 1 (OT): Brad Marchand scored on a penalty shot in overtime to give the Boston Bruins a 2-1 win over the Buffalo Sabres at TD Garden.
