JEDDAH — The National Water Company has completed 66 percent of the strategic water storage project. Jeddah Businesses Director at the NWC Fawaz Bahlas said the project aims to build 21 concrete cisterns to preserve 4 million cubic liters of water. "The entire project's estimated cost is over SR1.5 billion. The project has completed its first phase by filling up 11 cisterns with a total capacity of 2 million cubic liters. Each cistern has the capacity for 187,500 cubic liters," said Bahlas. He also said the second phase of the project is 70 percent complete. "In the second phase six cisterns with a total capacity of a million cubic liters will be built. The third phase of the project is complete by 31 percent and it includes the building of four cisterns," said Bahlas. He also said the total capacity for the third phase is a million cubic liters. "Each of the cisterns has a capacity of 250,000 cubic liters with a total cost of SR451 million. The project, started in 2012, aims to solve the issue of water shortage in various neighborhoods and districts of Jeddah," said Bahlas.
