Saudi Gazette report JEDDAH — A company in Jubail has failed to pay arrears to its employees despite instructions from the labor office, according to workers who filed a case against the company. The total arrears add up to over SR700,000 as the company has not paid salaries to its staff for more than six months, according to documents seen by the Saudi Gazette. Some 34 workers of the company filed a case at the labor office. But many other workers transferred their sponsorship or went back to their home countries. Some others were declared huroob (runaway) by the company and were forcefully deported, claimed a worker. The worker said that he never received his salary on time. And since mid-2014 he has not been paid. This forced him to transfer his sponsorship and complain at the labor office along with his colleagues. According to him, the labor office sent investigators to enquire about the case. The sponsor promised to pay the salaries as soon as he received money from a subcontracting company, but that never happened, said the worker. "We do not want the company to be punished. We just want our rights. We have families that are waiting for our financial assistance," the worker said. According to an official document from the labor office obtained by the Saudi Gazette, the worker deserves SR55,644 in arrears.
