MAKKAH – Prince Khaled Al-Faisal, emir of Makkah and advisor to Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, made an inspection tour of Bahra and Jumoom governorates in Makkah on Sunday.
Prince Khaled inspected the progress of some mega projects, which are under various phases of implementation.
The emir said major projects worth a total of SR3.4 billion are currently being implemented in the two governorates.
During the tour, Prince Khaled met members of the local councils as well as officials and several citizens. He also listened to key demands raised by the local residents.
This was Prince Khaled's first visit to Bahra, a strategic township located between Makkah and Jeddah, after becoming the emir of the province. He had visited Jamoom half a dozen times previously.
The projects being implemented in Bahra include a power plant at a cost of SR754 million, a road connecting the city with the Old Jeddah-Makkah Road at a cost of SR807 million and some municipal projects worth a total of SR196 million. The projects in Jamoom include a secondary industrial institute at a cost of SR34 million, a technical college (SR96 million), a hospital (SR225 million), an electricity project (SR275 million), roads (SR925 million) and municipal projects (SR102 million).
Prince Khaled said these projects would have a great impact on the quality of life of people living in the two governorates. He directed concerned officials to complete the projects quickly.
Referring to the rainwater drainage projects in Jeddah, the emir said a number of dam projects have been completed. Rainwater collected in the dams will flow through canals to the sea and will not cause floods in city districts.
The emir said a report about the functioning of the newly completed drainage projects and handling of the situation following the recent rain has been presented to Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman.
"The rain projects are found extremely successful in achieving the desired goals," he said.
Meanwhile, Makkah Mayor Osama Al-Bar signed two contracts for the operation of some cemeteries in Makkah and construction of walls around them. The first contract, costing SR23.89 million, is for the operation and maintenance of graveyards of Al-Moalla, Al-Sharaie, Al-Adl, Shuhada Al-Haram and Bahra for a period of three years, in addition to related services such as transportation, washing and burial of dead. The second contract, worth SR2.29 million, is for the construction of walls around several cemeteries in the holy city for a period of one year.
