Bodies of 2 girls missing in Turaif floods found

RIYADH – Civil Defense found on Saturday evening the two Saudi girls who went missing following the car in which the girls and their family were traveling was swept away from a valley that was struck by a flash flood.
The incident occurred in one of the valleys, west of Turaif governorate, Northern Border Province, on Monday (Oct. 26), according to the official spokesman of the Civil Defense in the Northern Border Province Lt. Col. Fahd Bin Al-Asmar Al-Enizi.
The car, in which the husband, wife and their six children were traveling, broke down in one of the valleys. Before the family knew it, a flash flood swept into the valley and strong currents dragged the car.
Al-Enizi said since receiving the report of the incident, Civil Defense and other teams rushed to the scene. Divers supported the rescue teams. The head of the family was rescued along with two boys. They were in a state of exhaustion and were admitted to the hospital. The two boys were released from the hospital while the man is still being treated.
Soon after, a woman and two other boys were found dead. The search operations continued for five days. A number of Saudi volunteers in the governorate and government and private authorities participated in the search for the missing two girls.
Apart from the Civil Defense search and rescue teams, other authorities included the police, army, Border Guard, Health Affairs represented by Turaif Hospital, Turaif Governorate Municipality, Ministry of Finance branch in Turaif, scouts, Muhammad Shahi Al-Ruwaili Establishment, Tariq Sulaiman Al-Hazmi Establishment, Al-Rowsan Company, Khattar Al-Ruwaili Establishment, Tariq Sulaiman Al-Hazmi Establishment and K9 search team.
The joint efforts resulted in finding one of the girls on Saturday evening buried under the soil in the valley. The second girl was also found in a pool of water at the end of the valley course.
The Civil Defense announced the end of all search operations at the site soon after finding the bodies of the two girls. It also offered its condolences to the families of the dead and hoped for quick recovery of the injured person.
The Civil Defense expressed its thanks to all the citizens, volunteers and government and private authorities that participated in the search operations or provided support.
