FOR people to appreciate the blessings of safety and security in their country, one must contemplate their reaction toward accidents they see or hear about! I'm not talking about those who underestimate the need for security within one's homeland claiming that other issues are far more important. In fact, these people are the ones who are in desperate need for security. If they did not feel so safe, they would not have been able to produce. They might have fled the country and perhaps murdered. In the worst-case scenario, they would have disappeared and kept quiet. Let us talk about the recent armed robbery at Al-Rahji Bank in Jazan. People spread the news with lot of curiosity and things didn't stop there. Even the media decided to dedicate a large space to tackle the issue. It was a front-page report in seven local newspapers. From my point of view, the case doesn't deserve all this public attention. A very simple man claimed that he was robbed. He wanted to take revenge and committed the crime under the influence of drugs. Meaning: Everyday a crime occurs in the east or west and no one pays attention to or cares about in such an exaggerated state. Any report of this nature finds a place only in the crimes and accidents section in one of the inside pages of the newspaper. But that is not the case in our country. I am not trying to undermine the seriousness of this crime. I was in Jazan when it happened. Life on the other end of the town was normal without any disturbances or even an additional checkpoint. A man walked into a building and fired his gun exactly in the direction of a man walking into his relative's home. I was surprised. How could this incident disturb social media? How could it move online users? It's a clear indication for all the haters and ill-wishers that the space for peace and security is large in our country. Imagine with me how the falling of one pistachio on a quiet room's floor makes a lot of noise. This rarely happens in large and diverse countries. I'm not trying to sell you talk or blabber without a purpose. This is the reality of our beautiful country. While these might be pros about our country, it still has its cons. It has this weird hardness about it. I understand a lot of things, but what I fail to understand is the way users of social media shift their opinions and exaggerate reports of these types. What's with this love for crime and blood scenes?
