Energy demand in GCC spiraling
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 08 - 07 - 2008

“Spiraling energy demand in the Gulf states, coupled with a gas-supply crunch, has put pressure on the economies of the region that require more hydrocarbons being devoted to power generation than had been the case historically, as power supply needs to keep pace with development,” an official of an event organizer said on Monday.
The oil-boom-fuelled economic growth, coupled with fast growing populations and subsidy-driven consumer patterns, have made the Gulf states some of the largest per-capita energy consumers in the world.
Germany's Techem Energy Services, an international leader in wireless metering technology, announced that they will be showcasing their range of energy conserving solutions to the Middle East region at the Working Buildings Middle East, which is scheduled to take place at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Center on Nov. 17-18, 2008.
“We are pleased that Techem Energy Services are choosing our event as a platform to showcase solutions that will help the regional industry to improve its power and operational efficiency requirements through better management of daily energy usage and significantly reducing consumption and thereby the impact on the environment,” said Chris Fountain, event director of CMPi organizers of the event.
Techem products are playing a vital role in the global push for energy conservation and facilitate real-time acquisition of critical usage and rate data from energy meters.
Techem is a leading international service provider for the housing and property industry in the field of consumption-based metering and billing of heat, water and cooling.
Hans-Lothar Sch?fer, director for International Markets of Techem AG, said: “Our know how in metering and cost allocation of heat can be applied almost directly to cooling.” A major benefit for potential customers: Techem can offer them a full service package, comprising measuring equipment and every single service from equipment installation and maintenance, all the way to the issue of individual bills.
Furthermore, Techem is world leader in terms of the use of radio technology for measuring energy consumption,” he stressed.
The mass of real estate projects consistently under construction in the Middle East have the opportunity to add environment-friendly energy conserving solutions at the building stages itself. In such a scenario, Techem products offer a powerful, user-friendly, and cost-effective means of energy management and conservation beneficial to the consumer, the utility, and the environment.
Techem measures the energy consumption of 400,000 customers in 7.9 million households. In 27 countries, the Techem brand stands for an economical and efficient use of natural resources. The German-based company employs 2,816 worldwide. __
